A Conference sharing opportunities for the urban edge.

This exciting event aimed to reveal how the urban fringe can contribute to the resilience and sustainability of cities and regions, by creating attractive recreational areas, improved greenspace and prospects for new employment opportunities.

This conference morning programme included:

  • Sharing new thoughts on governance approaches
  • Presenting a new urban fringe toolkit
  • Discussing effective approaches to urban fringe management
  • Informing on new policy recommendations for the urban fringe

The event highlighted the findings of the Sustainable Urban Fringes (SURF) project, which has been examining the significant economic, environmental and social benefits of the urban fringe, where urban meets rural.

There was the chance to find out more about some of the urban fringe projects across Europe which have informed the project research and analysis programme as well as hear from key experts from across Europe.

In the afternoon delegates took part in a study visit showcasing Aberdeen's urban fringe partner project - the River Don Corridor.
