Municipality of Harryda

The municipality of Härryda, with 34 000 inhabitants belongs to the western region in Sweden and is close neighbour with Gothenburg. Härryda is situated along Route 40 between the cities Gothenburg and Borås. Stretching almost 15 km from north to south and 30 km from west to east, it has an area totalling 268 square km. Forests cover about half the area and lakes about one twelfth.
The commission within the SURF project for Härryda will be to:
- Investigate the conditions for restoring walking tracks to make them more convenient and attractive both for people living in Härryda but also to increase the value of tourism for people living in Gothenburg as well as for people living in neighbour municipalities.
This will be done through:
- Preparing negotiations with landowners
- Make analysis of use of land with respect to regulations of national, regional and local levels resulting in a compilation of knowledge over the Swedish way to perform this. The result will be reported into the project and contribute to future work.
- Broad up the European network also for collaboration in other areas such as education, physical planning, construction etc.
The result in the short run will be to:
- Create additional value and a platform for further future work, with the refurbishment and development of existing walking routes.
- Contribute with knowledge to other nations/cultures
The result in the long run will hopefully be to:
- Increase the value of tourism (Growth)
- Create possibilities for tourism close to a big city (Equality)
- Take care and make use of green surroundings (Environment)
- Take care and share knowledge and experiences from other partners (EU-dimension)
